about

The research on Sophocles' "Oedipus" and its archetypes continues.

The fourth chapter is named after the Queen Jocasta, wife of Oedipus, but also his own mother as well as mother of his children.

In Marie-Louise von Franz's book "The Problem of the Puer Aeternus", Jocasta herself is a human manifestation of the archetypal Devouring Mother. Von Franz is connecting Jocasta with the Sphinx taking inspiration by Gustave Moreau painting "Oedipus and the Spinx". With her feminine power presence she helps the two men to calm down their intense rivalry. But it's the calm before the storm...

Rendeece (Vassilis Sardelis) approaches Sophocles' tragedy as "prima materia" for an alchemical and therapeutic art using archetypes coming out of our collective unconscious. With Tarot cards and elements of Jodorowsky's psychomagic, he is forming and constructing his music, his art as means for further excavating one's underflow, therapy and awareness.
